Schaeffler expands its portfolio of intelligent water pumps for the aftermarket

The switchable INA water pumps for the automotive aftermarket feature an electric actuator that regulates the delivery rate of the pump to match the various operating states of the engine.

With the expansion of its range under the INA brand, Schaeffler now also has switchable water pumps for vehicle models of the VW (1.4 TSI and 1.6, 2.0 TDI) and Mercedes-Benz (180-220 CDI) models in the spare parts range. Schaeffler will also be covering around 4 million vehicles in Europe with these three new water pumps.
Switchable INA water pumps make it possible to regulate the volume flow of the coolant more precisely within the entire circuit. Unlike conventional mechanical pumps, they only deliver the coolant when it is actually needed. This, for example, shortens the warm-up phase of the engine - which in turn saves energy and fuel and significantly improves emissions.

Characteristic is the electric actuator, which regulates the capacity of the pump to match the various operating conditions of the engine. Depending on the operating temperature of the engine, the engine control unit sends a signal to the actuator to activate or deactivate the respective shutdown function. Here either a shut-off plate is pushed over the impeller (VW 1.6 / 2.0 TDI, Mercedes Benz 180-220 CDI) or the pulley of the water pump decoupled (VW 1.4 TSI) and thus the volume flow in the cooling system is regulated. If these features and functions are not available, this leads to higher fuel consumption and higher emission levels.

The new switchable water pumps complete the comprehensive program for the automotive aftermarket. Schaeffler offers under the INA brand mechanical, switchable and electric water pumps for almost every vehicle type in Europe, and as the exclusive manufacturer worldwide, the intelligent thermal management module for around 3 million vehicles of the Volkswagen Group. All components contain extremely resistant and wear-resistant materials that counteract coolant loss and also ensure the tightness of the pumps at high pressure and temperatures.
